I'm so happy to be a tutor - along with Jock Tyldesley, Tom Kitching and Dave Gray - at this year's Folkworks Junior Summer School in Durham. I was a participant at the Youth Summer School for several years running, and can honestly say it was one of the most inspiring and exciting experiences of my life. More information on the Adult, Youth and Junior programmes here.
A big thank you...
...to all who came to the Rick Redbeard gigs. It was a great 're-initiation' into playing solo again. Lots of thanks also to Rick, Brian Reynolds at Synergy Concerts, Robin Morton, and staff at both venues. I've another solo show in the pipeline for the end of June - more on that later.
is this music? review
Here's a lovely review of Tuesday's Electric Circus gig with Rick Redbeard: http://www.isthismusic.com/rick-redbeard-sarah-hayes
The next one is this Sunday 17th March, at CCA, Glasgow. Really looking forward to it! Word on the street is that there have been some extra tickets released.
Latest
Last week was a very busy one with Flutes en Route... We visited eight different schools and a village hall, and played a total of twelve concerts, meeting lots of lovely people along the way. I think I'll have the tunes in my head for a while now, especially our ABBA medley. Gets me every time.
I managed to fit in my usual weekly teaching, and also an Edinburgh photo shoot with Archie MacFarlane, which I'm really looking forward to seeing the results of. And at dawn on Monday morning (well, near enough) Jennifer Austin of Kirkwall passed me some top secret documents in the form of illustrations for my EP artwork. She is one talented woman.
Next up are the two solo support slots for Rick Redbeard: 12th March at Electric Circus, Edinburgh, and 17th March at CCA, Glasgow. I am this excited:
Rick Redbeard support
Very happy to announce that I'll be supporting Rick Redbeard at his upcoming Edinburgh and Glasgow shows. Tickets and information here. Can't wait!
Busy week ahead
Coming up next week, some quality time with Flutes en Route. We'll be delivering eight community concerts in schools and centres throughout South Lanarkshire and Perthshire for the Live Music Now scheme, and also have a public recital in Doune's Rural Hall on Wednesday night. Donations of wine and fizzy sweets welcome for what is sure to be an exciting and exhausting week!
We had an amazing time in Ireland
Admiral Fallow - Irish tour
Off early tomorrow morning with Admiral Fallow, for our first run of gigs this year. We'll be visiting Belfast, Dublin, Galway and Cork (details at www.admiralfallow.com/live). We've only ever visited for one-off shows over the past couple of years, so it'll be great to go for a few days in a row this time. And I'll do my best to locate a tune here and there!
Debut EP
I've made my first ever solo recording! It's a four track EP called Mainspring, recorded and mixed by Mattie Foulds at Mobile With A Home, and mastered by Stuart Hamilton at Castlesound studios. I've got some good pals playing on it, too: Fiona MacAskill (fiddle), Hannah James (accordion) and Ian Stephenson (guitar). Now in the process of getting everything together, but watch this space for more details in the coming weeks. Here's Mattie working his magic at the controls...
